Sometimes it is hard to understand the statement of fashion designers. But after reading this story you will have a little bit more understanding about these fashion designers. For this goal I would like to introduce and explain you the collection of Mihaela Markovic.
This Croatian designer (based in Zagreb) made an amazing knit-collection during her graduation show in Milan, where for she was selected. She gave the name Paradoxes to her collection. What she wants to show with her collection is how we get from raw material, from 3D into a simple pure form, the simplicity, the geometry.
For that reason the entire collection is developed in this way: it begins with protective knitwear, oversized, very worked, dark, loaded, heavy, combined with geometric shapes (straight pants, coats with asymmetric openings, etc..), strips itself in its course, showing the beauty of a simple knitted dress; ending in the same way as it had begun, closing its course in dark, three-dimensional, dare I say even exaggerated way
Please read more about her concept Paradoxes:
The act of protecting or the state of being protected; preservation from loss and discomfort; the defense and the refuge, as well as a need to protect the weak
The hand-knitting process that I have chosen to be the axis of my collection is ‘a legacy’, an activity that despite all the new technology that exists still survives in our modern world: a sort of a paradox
Moreover the fashion industry itself is a great paradox: a superficial, industrial, excessive on the one hand and on the other hand we see the profound research and the context, the story behind each designer that creates a connection with his/her clothing
Delicate, refined wool yarns create knitwear that is elegant and sophisticated at the same time
Apart from that, I combined different yarns of mixed colors and weights to create a new type of mesh : that is how I found immense opportunity’ to work with the yarn
The braid that plays a big role in my collection has a story behind it: we usually braid the hair, which is a physical extension of our thinking, and our spiritual essence, our strength
The braid is made of three bunches of hair-that reminds us of the union of the force (we are more’ stronger together than alone)
The three groups of hair can represent many things: the strength to face life (inner strength to live with our pain), courage, and generosity’ (take care of those who are less fortunate than ourselves)
In dreams a braid also represents femininity and sensitivity, the braid can be stimulating to concentrate power and energy on a certain target
